Hmm. I wonder if the new owners will be any better, or will be
thought of as any better?

Well, they probably won't make the _same_ mistakes Six Apart did. I
suspect it's a good thing LiveJournal is to be run by a new team.

I wonder what's being said on the Russian-languages LJs?

The Russian users don't seem to have a very high opinion of SUP:

I wonder where the ones who decide to leave will be most likely to go.

I plan to start a self-hosted blog and continue reading my friends
list through OpenID. I'm disgusted by having not just US censorship
laws, but a *stricter* set of rules that 6A has dreamed up as an
extension to US censorship laws enforced on me through code; I'd like
to be able to speak freely and take responsibility for the
consequences, rather than being forced to serve as someone's guardian
by "protecting" them from sexual content or facing suspension if I
don't do so.

Cheers,
Tim

I've been mirroring my LJ account on InsaneJournal. I think it works
better than LiveJournal -- and IJ isn't adding "improvements" I would
rather do without.

Note: Besides LJ refugees, InsaneJournal is now getting people from
GreatestJournal.

I would say InsaneJournal is well worth a look.

I should have said it's run better. The person who set it up is still
running it, rather than an employee of a company whose focus is
elsewhere.

Well, first of all I am a Russian LJ user (however rather a former one
since have no LJ account *right now*).

What can I say?

The political situation in Russia is that no freedom of press. We can
not discuss alternative opinion say on TV/radio/etc. That's why most of
*political* conversations moved to LJ.

And no one likes that SUP acquired LJ since there is high chances that
censorship (political) would implemented, especially on Russian blogs,
since I don't think non-Russian LJ account holders are criticising Putin
and his dictatorship.

Would it affect American/British/other users? No - generally - as long
as you don't talk about Russia (you can however talk about Belarus or
Uzbekistan freely as long as you don't mention Russia).

By the way, now probably you will have no problems with child abuse - in
Russia it's not a problem - you can have a sex with children in Russia
of age 10-12, and no police will catch you, especially on the Web, it's
not America.

But as in Russia recently heads of opposition's youth people from
"Another Russia" being broken (meaning some of them killed by police -
for now only one or two yet - but sure will be continued - after B.
Yeltsin is dead, no one could stop Putin's people), I am sure they would
implement - or try to implement - censorship on LJ... however - *maybe*
no - but rather yes.

What is the alternative? Free blog server:

http://noblogs.org/

non-commercial (BUT PLEASE DONATE!),

mainly an Italian idea - not Russian or American - so it's better - I
think that in EU more freedom than in the USA or Russia.

(The only probably bad thing on NoBlogs is that before creating an
account on their servers you need to have an A/I or other *independent*
email account. www.autistici.org rules, I do use their mail. And have no
worries on CIA/KGB/censorship etc.)
